⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Even a decade after its Broadway premiere, this production of Hamilton has a fresh sizzle, arriving at Glasgow’s Theatre Royal for this festive run on the final stop of its UK tour.

Lin Manuel-Miranda’s iconic historical musical is dazzling in every respect.

The immense biopic telling the story of one of the United States’ lesser known founding fathers is a masterstroke of the genius of Lin-Manuel Miranda, juxtaposing the historical tale with a modern beat.

Marley Fenton shines as the titular Hamilton, showing the humanity of the flawed genius. He’s delicately paired with Sydney Spencer, bursting from the ensemble to take on the mammoth Eliza Hamilton role with aplomb.

A timely lecture from Louis Maskell’s King George is delightful in its simplicity, proving you can hold the audience in your palm with the gentlest of shoulder shrugs.

There appears no scaling down in this touring production, with all the bells and whistles – and revolving stage – included.

This mammoth production sits proudly in Glasgow’s intimate Theatre Royal, David Korins set sitting splendorous in its ingenuity and simplicity, shifting from  back room bar to field of war and Oval Office.

History is a hard sell in the theatre world, when jukebox musicals and flashy new productions come by. But Hamilton’s innovative style is absolutely one of a kind. And though 10 years on from its premiere, it’s every bit as fresh as it once was.

Don’t throw away your shot for the theatrical event of this festive season.
